The National Center for Energy and Materials Research (CNPEM) is an EMBRAPII unit with state-of-the-art infrastructure and qualified professionals that work in the development of projects in the areas of Biomass Processing and Utilization and Development of Materials from Biomass. The institution has solid experience in the development of enzymes, biologically active principles, bio and nanomaterials, biofuels, processing routes for the disassembly and fractionation of biomasses, as well as devices from the biomass for control and characterization of products and processes.
The following projects which are being carried out in partnership with EMBRAPII must be highlighted:
- Discovery of an anticancer drug that aims the development of new proliferative agents inspired by the Brazilian floristic biodiversity, with Aché.
- Production of polymeric composites using loads from biomass made along with SPPT company.

The National Center for Energy and Materials Research (CNPEM) is a social organization qualified by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC). Located in Campinas, SP, it has four referenced laboratories worldwide which are open to the scientific and business community: the National Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS); the National Laboratory of Biosciences (LNBio); the Bioethanol Science and Technology Laboratory (CTBE) and the National Nanotechnology Laboratory (LNNano).
