Since 2014 acting as EMBRAPII Unit in the High Performance Materials area, the Technological Research Institute (IPT) was again accredited in 2016 to develop projects in the area of Biotechnology.

Biotechnology techniques bring new perspectives for society to face at least four major challenges of the 21st century – health therapies, food production problems, renewable energy production and sustainability issues in today’s industrial processes.
